  • Understand Key Terminology – Gain clarity on the terms and identities of individuals within the 2SLGBTQI+ community and explore the significance of inclusive language.

  • Recognize & Address Discrimination – Learn how homophobia, biphobia and transphobia appear in various settings and learn about how these biases affect the well-being of 2SLGBTQI+ individuals.

Presenter:Horst Backé (he/him) is the Co-Coordinator of Living OUT Visibly and Engaged Community Response Network (LOVE CRN), which has spearheaded several initiatives to decrease abuse, neglect and self-neglect of 2SLGBTQI+ adults. A retired public health nurse and healthcare manager, Horst has been an avid volunteer and since 1984 and is currently helping resettle LGBTQ+ refugees in Nanaimo in his role as the president of Reaching Out Assisting Refugees (ROAR).

Monday, April 28, 2025, Canadians will go to the polls in one of our country’s most important federal elections.

Senior Pride Network Canada/Réseau de la Fierté des personnes aînées du Canada (SPNC/RFAC) asks Canadians going to the polls to choose politicians and leadership who believe in a country where everyone, at every age, feels valued and respected.

In these challenging times of conflict and enmity, Canadians must vote for an inclusive future – a future built on kindness, championing human rights, honouring diverse identities, and ensuring older persons, and especially 2SLGBTQI+ older adults, are respected and feel seen and heard.

That future must include within federal government programs and services, such as the 2SLGBTQI+ Action Plan and seniors strategies, specific programs, initiatives and funding to ensure the social, health and financial well-being of 2SLGBTQI+ older adults.

On April 28, 2025, make your vote represent a choice for an inclusive Canada that respects differences, no matter who they love or how they identify, with compassion and understanding.

SPNC/RFAC is a national organization supporting 2SLGBTQI+ seniors, elders, and older persons. We strive to nurture communities that embrace aging with compassion, dignity, and understanding.

Women and Gender Equality Canada’s 2SLGBTQI+ Secretariat is please to provide you with the first 2SLGBTQI+ Action Plan Progress Report, highlighting the Government of Canada’s progress to implement the Action Plan over its first 18 months.

This Report provides an overview of the Government of Canada’s work from August 28, 2022 to March 31, 2024 to advance 2SLGBTQI+ equality in Canada and around the world through the Action Plan’s six priority areas.

While the work of the Action Plan continues, I am heartened to see all the effort being done across Canada to create more opportunities and protections for 2SLGBTQI+ communities.

Musical Theatre: “Seniors Take On Things We Never Talk About” 

MOSAIC (M.O.S.A.I.C. Multi-lingual Orientation Service Association  for Immigrant Communities)
is one of Canada’s largest settlement  non-profit organizations.
Our newcomer services change the lives of  immigrants, refugees, and individuals
from diverse backgrounds in  Greater Vancouver and throughout BC.

Back by popular demand after an incredible 2024 run that drew 900 audience members, the musical theatre production “Seniors Take On Things We Never Talk About” features a cast of immigrant seniors with limited English skills.

Through a unique blend of humour, music, and heartfelt storytelling, this production explores aging stereotypes, elder abuse, and the power of connection—challenging societal perceptions while celebrating the strength, resilience, and wisdom of seniors.

In our musical theatre performance, we’ll explore:

Have you ever felt lonely or isolated from your loved ones?

How do you feel about being treated as if you’re incapable of understanding?

What are your thoughts on seniors dating and finding love?

These performances aim to amplify the voices, experiences, and wisdom of immigrant seniors. By addressing elder abuse, ageing stereotypes, and the importance of social connection, we hope to spark meaningful conversations and foster a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by our senior community.
